The marble courthouse which still stands majestically in the town center is where the citizens of Pickens County defiantly raised the Union Flag in protest of Georgia’s secession from the Union. The 1906 jail is completely restored to its original marble splendor and is on the National Registry of Historical Places.  As you stroll casually through the historic downtown Jasper area, you will notice several historic structures faced in marble, which is Picken County’s most abundant natural resource; that is of course other than FUN!
