Get Involved: Open Arms of Blue Ridge, Georgia Right now I’m sure most of you are asking, "What is Open Arms". Open Arms is a non-profit organization that was created to raise money in order to build an assessment center for foster children here in the Blue Ridge area. Escalating drug problems and increased family violence in Fannin County and other surround counties have resulted in a record number of confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect. As a result of these increased numbers, there aren’t enough foster care homes to find placement for these children. Close your eyes visualize this picture. It is a cold, rainy night and the police arrive at the home of 4-year old little Sarah. They have sufficient evidence and their purpose for this visit is to remove little Sarah from her home. Miss Sarah is sleeping. The officer picks her up in his arms and shelters her from the rain while returning to the police car. Now, where will Miss Sarah spend the night? Where will she wake up in the morning? Where will she be 2 days from now? Oh no, all of our foster homes are filled to capacity. Shouldn’t every child (boy or girl, young or old) have a safe haven to call their home? Don’t they deserve a place to sleep in peace? What about a warm meal on the table? A loving hug? Words of encouragement? The answer to these questions is: YES, YES, YES!!! Open Arms is the place for those children. This assessment shelter will provide a "home" for these children until permanent placement can be found or they can be returned to their families. This organization is currently in the process of raising money to build this shelter, and we currently have around $130,000.00 . We have received numerous donations from so many kind, loving, and caring people in and outside of our community. Every donation moves us a little closer to finding a place for little Miss Sarah. We currently are accepting monetary donation and any new items of furniture that could be used in the shelter. If you are a builder, contractor, business owner, etc., we could certainly use your services or any materials that you would be willing to donate to our worthwhile cause. And the child said, "I want to live here." Bookmark & ShareUser CommentsBe the first to comment on this news release below! Related Articles
